J.D. Power has released its 2018 Airline Loyalty Program Satisfaction Study, with JetBlue Airways' TrueBlue program taking the top spot. The frequent-flier programs for Southwest Airlines and Alaska Airlines ranked second and third, respectively.
Southwest Airlines will launch seasonal nonstop flights from Rochester, N.Y., to Fort Myers, Fla., in February and March 2019. The weekly Saturday flights are expected to carry 400 more travelers to Florida during the winter season, said Monroe County, N.Y., official Cheryl Dinolfo.
JetBlue Airways has added two new independent directors to its board: Sarah Robb O'Hagan and B. Ben Baldanza. "Their diverse experience as innovators across industries will be invaluable as we continue to strengthen the JetBlue business for our crew members, customers and owners," said JetBlue Chairman Joel Peterson.
American Airlines celebrated more than 400 people who have worked 45 or more years with the carrier this week. "We are all here tonight because we want to thank you and let you know that we stand on your shoulders. Because of all that you've accomplished and that you've done, we have the honor to be able to lead this company and live up to the legacy that you've created," American Airlines CEO Doug Parker said.
United Airlines and restaurant operator OTG have joined to bring Gavi, a new restaurant with a southern Italian-like menu, to Terminal E at Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport. The menu was created with chef Ryan Pera of Revival Market and Coltivare, and features traditional family recipes combined with locally sourced ingredients, according to OTG.
Blue Grass Airport in Lexington, Ky., is planning a new WestLEX facility to support general aviation activities. The facility will feature a 12,000-square-foot community aircraft storage and maintenance hangar, a lounge, restrooms, vending machines, flight planning area, and fueling and towing services.
Thirty-three aviation organizations sent a letter to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., urging them to pass a long-term Federal Aviation Administration reauthorization bill before funding for the agency runs out on Sept. 30. "Long-term legislation will allow employers, manufacturers, customers, and communities the certainty to continue to build, invest, hire, innovate, and grow in this dynamic industry," said the letter.
Airports concerned about maintaining effective cybersecurity on a tight budget can pool resources to create a security operation center, writes SITA's Stephane Gomez. "A shared model spreads benefits and costs across multiple airports, enabling the sharing of information, best practices and a common governance of cybersecurity," Gomez notes.
